Rewoven

A newsletter for facilitating change by Black Coconut

Gathered here

Welcome to the first edition of Rewoven.

I started this newsletter to share what’s on my mind as I sit with one big question:
How do we solve the challenges facing mission-driven organisations and changemakers today?

Here’s what I know:

We can’t strategise our way out of systemic crises without also transforming how we work together. Which is why I keep returning to facilitation, not as a side practice, but as a central, catalytic force. When we gather with intention, clarity, and care, we unlock our collective intelligence. We surface what’s stuck beneath the surface. We build the trust required to move.

Over the years, in DEI and strategy work, I’ve seen the same dynamic play out: even brilliant ideas can’t gain traction in disorganised, toxic, or siloed environments. The work stalls. People disengage. Momentum dies. Facilitation, when it is done well, creates the conditions for strategy to live and thrive.

This newsletter is where I’ll share what I’ve learned — and what I’m still learning — about designing spaces that shift power, connect people, and make change stick. It’s taken me time to fully own that I have a gift for crafting meaningful gatherings, decoding group dynamics, and co-creating strategy people actually believe in. But I do. And I want to share that with you.

Whether you’re leading change, navigating complexity, or simply trying to make your work more human and effective, I hope Rewoven offers tools, ideas, and threads of inspiration to support you.

Let’s stay in the weave.

The core thread

Weaving Facilitation as the Strategy

When I first started doing strategy work, I thought the real action came after the process:

✔️ Once the vision was set.
✔️ Once the strategic priorities were agreed.
✔️ Once the deck was final.

But something kept bothering me:
We’d leave behind beautiful plans and too often, nothing would change.

That’s when I realised that facilitation changes everything!

I learned that strategy doesn’t begin with the slide deck. It begins in the room, in how people are invited in, in whether trust exists, in whether power is shared

Strategy isn’t just a set of decisions. It’s the process that gets you there. And that process is only as strong as the facilitation behind it.

Facilitation isn’t a soft skill on the sidelines of strategy. It is the strategy.

If you're not designing the way people come together, you're leaving the success of your strategy to chance.

Threads of change

A piece that makes us rethink how we frame aid and the work of International NGOs and why we need to reimagine alternatives.

A reflection on the ancient tradition of informing bees of a death in the family, exploring how this practice intertwines with human grief and resilience.

A participatory, power-aware approach that fuels learning and advocacy to dismantle inequality.
